ABOUT  THE VILLAGE

The nature has bestowed upon the village of Leušići the gentle forest-covered mountains and clear water rivers and brooks, endless soft green pastures and meadows making it irresistible throughout the seasons.

The history has also enriched this area with numerous important events and people that have marked the past centuries of European legacy. Numerous historic and cultural monuments are found throughout the region.  The village of Leušići is mentioned as far back as 1718 in historical writings.  The name comes from its founder Leo and the founding families came primarily from Herzegovina.

Leusici is situated on the slopes of mountain Suvobor, 500 mt above the sea level.  It is 28 km distant from Gornji Milanovac and 25 km from Cacak.

Climatic conditions have favourable effects on those suffering from bronchitis, high and low blood pressure and anaemia.

Fast mountain rivers of Cemernica and Konjska that flow through Leusici are rich in fish, and there are also several fresh water springs nearby.

ABOUT THE SURROUNDING VILLAGES...

In the nearby village of Takovo, under the leadership of Milos Obrenovic, the second Serbian rising began. That important historical time for Serbian, more than 195 years ago, is symbolically represented in this area with a dried out bush-all that remains of a massive oak under which Milos Obrenovic commenced the uprising, monument to the Rising of 1887, Church-lodge from the end of the 18th century in which all the heroes of the Rising took their Communion before heading off to battle.

Neighbourly village of Koštunići is the first ecological village in Serbia. The nature of this village has not yet been touched by the civilisation-everything is seminally clean.  The gifts of nature are several clear water streams from which you can drink the water freely, succulent meadows with sheep herders’ cottages.  “Etno-art”, healthy food, is made in Kostunici and one can find also the etno-turistic complex “Andelije Misic”.

Savinac is a hamlet 18 km away from Leušići. Legend narrates that Sveti Sava (Serbian Archbishop and consequently a saint, from the 12th century) has passed by this road on his pilgrimage and that you can still see the imprint of his horse’s hoof in the stone.
Miloš Obrenović (Serbian prince 1780-1860) has built here his first endowment in the memory of his loving wife, princess Ljubica. A well kept tower from Milos’s time can be visited, as well.
Here is laid to rest Mina Karadzic, the daughter of Vuk Karadzic (Serbian linguist and a major reformer of Serbian language 1787-1864).

Gornja Dobrinja can be found 20 km from Leušići. This village is known for its past and natural beauties. The most famous ones are the numerous mills known from the time of prince Milan Obrenovic (1854-1901).. Above everything else, Gornja Dobrinja is the birth place of prince Milos Obrenovic.

Suvobor Mountain is 12 km from the village of Leušići. Positioned right against Rudnik, a very tame mountain, Suvobor dominates this area with its wild and untouched beauty. Ravna gora is a wide green plateau on Suvobor, rich in beech forest and meadows. On this plateau one can visit the monument to the Serbian general Draza Mihailovic (Serbian general during World War II 1893-1946, awarded Legion of Merit by President Truman on recommendation by General Eisenhower for contribution in Allied victory), Saint George’s Church, mountain house and vista “Babina glava”.
On the south side of the plateau one can take in a breathtaking view of Serbian and Eastern Bosnia.

Ovčarsko Kablarski monasteries can be found 30 km from Leusici (a series of 10 monasteries and 2 holy sites- some of them dating back to 1307- within the most beautiful Serbian gorge, on the Right and West bank of river Morava)
